Hi All.
Anyone know why cars in Australia don't have a check engine light?
I have been trying to get codes out of my 91 320i for ages because it seems to be running rich but by using cables and a computer I have had no luck so I started looking into the check engine flash codes.
I started by pulling the instrument cluster out and putting a globe in where the check engine light should be but it did not light up, so I went to the DME output for the check engine light and using a test light hooked up to positive (+) I have finally got codes for my car.
My hunch was right and it throws the code for o2 sensor so I have ordered a new one and have also hooked up the check engine light to a LED which I mounted next to the ignition so I can get warnings and codes all the time.
On my car putting a test light to positive on pin 8 out of the DME will give you check engine codes but I cannot guarantee it on your car.
Hope this helps others trying to get codes out of their car.
