Yup, the factory harnesses can get a bit twitchy with age and aftermarket. Just disconnect and insulate the ends of the factory system and wire the new system as a stand alone, it's a bitch but it works.

ok im not to sure what you mean by disconnect it and wire it as a stand alone but do you know if the mids and highs in the doors have a built in crossover

well i had some memphis car audio crossovers and i hooked them up to the door speakers and just wired the rest to the head unit it took forever but i have my sound back and it sounds 10 times better than it ever did thanks for the suggestions

I have the same issue and same car. 1992 325i. My amp is shot so my buddy installing my Alpine head unit is bypassing the amp until I install another one. The wiring is a pain in the A**!

well if its harmon kardon the cross overs are built in the amp. mine did this too, but i think it was cause my battery was pushing enough current....but mines pushing 2 12'' infinitys
