yeah i had alot of the same problems. i finally just wired everything directly to my head unit.

Yup, the factory harnesses can get a bit twitchy with age and aftermarket. Just disconnect and insulate the ends of the factory system and wire the new system as a stand alone, it's a bitch but it works.

ok im not to sure what you mean by disconnect it and wire it as a stand alone but do you know if the mids and highs in the doors have a built in crossover

im pretty sure the isn't a crossover. you'll have to do it yourself

well i had some memphis car audio crossovers and i hooked them up to the door speakers and just wired the rest to the head unit it took forever but i have my sound back and it sounds 10 times better than it ever did thanks for the suggestions

Good work. thats pretty much what i did. its deff worth it. idk what went wrong with there stock sound systems.

I have the same issue and same car. 1992 325i. My amp is shot so my buddy installing my Alpine head unit is bypassing the amp until I install another one. The wiring is a pain in the A**!

bypassing is the way to go. foreal its just so much better because its easy to upgrade and then you yourself know where all the wires are.

well if its harmon kardon the cross overs are built in the amp. mine did this too, but i think it was cause my battery was pushing enough current....but mines pushing 2 12'' infinitys
