E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
Hello everyone this is my first time posting here although i have been visiting for quite a while now and found some really useful advice.
I have a strange problem with my '91 325,i've had the car for 4 years now and it has never given me any grief whatsoever until this week.
When i press the button on the remote it unlocks-lights blink and it beeps as usual but when i go to start it there is no power at all so i try a few more times and get nothing then the alarm starts going off and lights start flashing (sometimes just the lights keep flashing)and i cant get the alarm to stop by pressing the button on the remote which i usually do when it goes off by accident. The alarm stops by itself after 30 seconds or so and then when i try to start it it fires up no problem and everything is normal?
This has been happening every few days now.
It has a bmw battery which has been in there since i've had the car and the dot is still showing green and connections are tight and clean.
If anyone can shed any light on this problem or advise me what i should be checking i would really appriciate it.
Thanks in advance.
I honestly have no idea what causes this, but my car did the same thing roughly 7 years ago. I just unhooked the alarm under the dash, and got use to no keyless entry. It seemed much better than the embarrassment of my car blowing up every time I tried leaving.

This may sound like a silly question, but have you tried changing the battery in your remote key fob? If it is an original it would be past its use-by date - commonly the battery will have just enough to power up for one push to lock or unlock your car between rests but that's it.
The battery in the key fob is fine its just sometimes when i go to start the car there is no power its as if the battery has been disconnected everything is completly dead. Also my aftermarket stereo resets back to factory settings? but the obc retains all information? I would have thought the obc should reset aswell.I'm very confused!
I'd rather not disconnect the alarm if i can help it.
Thanks for your suggestions.
