Ok, so the last few days of school, we barely do anything in classes, so I took my Bavauto magazine with me and was reading and came across a very interesting product.

Plasma Booster Ignition Coils

Now, does this really work as good as they say it does?

it improves throttle response basically.. not worth the $700 price tag unless you need to replace your coils. Then I would consider it as a replacement upgrade..

well its time for me to replace my coils since im getting all the systems of failing coils ( bogging, poor throttle response,slight engine missfire,engine light on, etc.) now are they really worth the $700.00 price tag or should i just go with something else?

Bav Auto has the hi perfs for 449.00 and they're worth the investment. But before you jump into them make sure all else is ok. Clean out your MAF, change fuel & air filters and run a good cleaner through the fuel system. (Also check for vacuum leaks - cracked or loose hoses) You'll be really upset if you invest into coils only to have same symptoms.

Since you're an OBDI car, Bavauto has High performance coils for 274.95. It's just the OBD II cars that have to pay $700.

The OEM coils are $50 each, and don't come with the rubber boot. So the performance coils are actually cheaper.

Check your coil boots first. I replaced all of my coils and found out that they were still good and the boots were bad. Take a multimeter and measure the resistance between the outside 2 connectors of the coil pack (remove and unplug them first). It should be in the area of .4 to .8 ohms.

As for the plasma setup, it's a recommended upgrade for FI, but I really do not see any benefit for NA.

And one last thing, Bavauto rips you off. Their prices are ridiculous. You can find better deals elsewhere.

Ok so this morning at work.

The core windings inside these coils have been modified to increase firepower and promote a faster, more efficient burn. Up for a DIY? It's a similar procedure to Dudesky's Spark Plug DIY, however it wouldn't hurt to have another source.
