Some help regarding clutch?

Hi all.

My buddy has a 1994 325i - he recently had the head gasket done, as well as the head skimmed. The guy who did the rebuild wasnt the best on earth - the problem is that in 1st and 2nd gear, the car pulls great, no clutch slippage at all, no matter how hard he hits the throttle - 3rd, 4th and 5th are giving problems in that when he punches it, the revs climb like mad, with no acceleration, and then the speed catches up.

He also had a problem with his slave cylender going, so he replaced the slave and the master.

What might be the problem?

Thanks.
