alarm reprogramming
hi folks, ive just become the lucky owner of a 325i SE in mint condition. however, i have an unusual alarm. alll the alarms i have seen on this model seem to have 2 or 3 buttons and easy programming instructions at hand. mine is a 1 button fob with no key buttons. my local BMW garage would gladly have a look for £90!. does anyone have any idea how to reprogram this type?. any help would me much appreciated. cheers, James

Hi. I take it you have changed the battery?
If you have the same type of factory fitted alarm as me, (factory fitted with the key on/off on the horn box under the hood) then the alarm fob is hard wired.
Inside mine are tiny jumpers which are configured to match your alarm. When I got a replacement fob 2 years ago it didn't work so I changed the jumpers (requires careful use of a soldering iron) and it worked fine.
There wasn't any need to reprogram the main alarm - it just worked!

I should have explained it a little better. There are several tracks on the reverse of the printed circuit board which have gaps between them. You need to bridge the appropriate gaps with a small piece of wire (jumper) to match the existing remote.
This is assuming that you have the right wiring in yours to start with!

hi, thanks for helping, again. i looked at both fobs and they both appear to be exactly the same on chip board reverse. do you think that i could try and purchase new fob like you did then wire these the same as existing fobs on the hope that both these fobs are knackered. cheers, James

If the red led is lighting on both of the fobs when you press the button then they are probably OK . The alarm might have been disconnected by the previous owner though (maybe to install an after market alarm?)- it would be worth checking to see if the unit is connected. The alarm unit is located behind the glove box so to check it you would need to remove it.
I assume that you have checked the fuses?
