Hello & Vert Top

Hello. My first post. We replaced the vert window on our '99 328i E36 last week. When the job was done we had that gasket that tucks under the flap left over - oops! So how bad is it? Was it for road noise? Or moisture? Or both? I don't mind the road noise but I don't a water leak. And can I squeeze it back in without re-zippering? Seems like I should be able to raise the flap, insert the gasket, and re-contact cement it in place.
