Summertime=new tires!
So i'm looking at the Pirelli P Zero Nero M + S. Anyone have them or know anything about them? I was checking out tirerack.com and they rated the Avon Tech M550 A/S pretty high. I've never heard of them, anyone? I don't want a tire for pure dry performanc, it needs to perform well on wet roads as well. Snow traction is not an issue because I have snow tires. Thanks to the best bmw forums site!

i dont personally have them, but have heard good things about them. Since you do not have to worry about driving in the snow at all, getting these tires would not be a bad choice at all, i have never really heard exact quotes about driving in rain with them, but am sure they will hold up pretty good.

Agreed. If 50 Cent rides on Pirelli's you should be ok :P No seriously, no one ever has anything bad to say about them. And about the other tire you mentioned, I have no idea, never heard of them.

Yeah, those were basically my thoughts. I just thought I'd ask about the Avons cause they're a fair amount cheaper, but I'd rather go with a brand that has proven its name. (My dad has Avons on his Harley, if that means anything, haha).

well anything pirelli is hot!! thats why they are soo exspensive

My E30 has P6s on it when I bought it, I thought that was pretty snazzy.
Are you really going to use eight hundred dollars of tire at a track or something? For just normal, adolescence-inspired driving I'd sooner recommend Kumhos Supra 712s or Ecstas. They're incredibly sporty for the price, and you woun't want to do burnouts in Pirellis. |
Kumhos Supra 712s is what I ride on with my 18s. Cost me 500 bucks mounted for the tires, mount and balance which is a heck of a deal from discount tire. They grip up really good which is what I wanted so I went with those for the price.

I just got a quote today. They're going to be $464 including mounting, disposal, taxes, etc. No way would I spend $800 on a set of tires!

Let me just say, I have these tires on 225\50\16r's and they own.
I'd definately get them again, infact, I'm due for another set and I'm debating weither to save 50$ and get those avon's or stick to (HAHA A PUN!) what I already know kicks ass. These things grip like a motherfucker. With my khumos, I could EASIALLY get sideways and drift around corners when the roads are wet, Now, I actually have to work to get it sideways and try to spin it out. the avons are relitively new, there are only 200,000 miles recorded on tirerack for those, and the pirili pzero's have some 6 million miles or whatever. First impression is not as good as the final result when the tread starts to wear. I was impressed all the way through with my nero M+S's I say spring for the extra 50$ and get the piriliis. If my mom or dad will pop for the 50$ extra, that's what I'm getting again. I'm barly able to afford a new set and I'm already wearing down the wear bar, lol (extra 50$ figure is for my tire size, 225/50/16) Get them. They are wonderful. |
If you go through tyres like I do.... Kumho is where its at... cheap and good stick for the price. I use the ecstas supras.... I got 265s in the rear and 235s in the front... about time for some new ones.... but if you got the money.. and you dont murder tyres... get the good ones... but if you rip through them like I do... its probably better worth your money to get the cheaper performance tyres.
Good Luck, Les |
Yup, jrhaile, that's the price for the Pirelli's. I was suprised when the dealer said $464. I told him, "Yeah, but I need all four." He was like, "Right. $464." Then I asked how much it would be with mounting and everything, take a shot in the dark at what he said, haha. He must have thought I was such a dumbass lol. :throwrock
Thanks bitcore. I was really hoping for some firsthand experience, and yours just makes me even more sure that I want them. I thought the same thing about the Avon's: I was skeptical because they were new and not proven. Oh yeah, and that's the same size I'll be getting. As far as driving style goes: I don't normally "murder" tires haha. If I end up with the Pirelli's, I'll just be a bit more careful, though it sounds like they are made to be driven a bit harder. BTW, thanks for all the input guys! |
Like I said, if 50 Cent rides on them, they've gotta be good!

anyone ever used Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance tires???? That is what my car came with so ive never bought anything else, ive been extremely pleased with them, so is $20 extra per tire worth getting the pirelli's??? (nitto have 300 tread rating, pirelli have 400, so the extra money might even out since they will last longer :dunno)
also i live in texas so snow/rain shouldn't be any issue at all |
I just got some new 225/55-15 Michelin Pilot HX MXM. Nothing wrong with them, and they are pretty decent. 150$ apiece though. However, I think I much prefer the 225/55 over the 205/60 size, that's for sure. Sidewall = bad. :)
Next time it comes up to replace tires I think I'll end up just getting some 17" rims. |
