No voltage @ fuel pump/ Bad Ground??
Any suggestions?
My car ('95 325ic manual) recently shut down while I was driving. It was similar to running out of gas. There was also a strange smell and smoke (very light) around the passanger floor compartment area. Things I've tried: -pulled fuel pump hooked up to 12v works fine -checked relay (dme & fuel pump) with 12v across contacts, the normally open circuit was closed and continuity was restored. - checked voltage @ fuel pump, leveler has power, pump when trying to start the car does not get power. -ran jumper wires to get 12v from the headlight/foglight relay, got the pump started (heard the pump whirling) tried starting the car the noticable difference, cranks sounded stronger, but the car still wouldn't start. Almost out of ideas, i'm going to pull the plugs to see if they are sparking but other than which i'm stumped. any help is 'preciated. thanks Report Post Edit/Delete Message |
If this failure was in any way associated with exposure to water, the DME may have been damaged. This link will help you to check the DME and its relay http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech...DME-Repair.htm

Yea, I had the same issue. My DME got some water in it from a heavy snow shower, (Snow melted & got in, parked for a week on my inclined driveway). Luckly, I had bought a replacment DME, becasuse this had happen to me a year before & the shop I took it to told me about this issue. They Dried it up & started back up. Try doing the same or you may have to by another unit. I got mine from: http://www.bmrparts.com/ Good luck.
