any help wit problem please
my 318tds is really anoying me now.its losein power at all times i changed the fuel filter and got the turbo checked has anyone else had a problem like this before any help would be great please ??????????????

it accuatly could be the battery it is playing up lately every morning i try to start the car the battery gos dead and i have to jump start it ill get a new one and let use no how i get on wit that thanks again folks

hi guys got the battery checked and its working fine this problem is really anoying? am thinking off changeing my engine now gona get something bigger like a 3 litre or something dose anyone no wot engine will fit straight in to my 318tds

Assuming its the same chasis as the normal 318i, you should be able to fit a number of bmw engines in. I mean if they can shoehorn a v12 into an e30 almost anything is possible.

Have you checked the basics like glow plugs and cooling systems. Basically for a diesel to work you need your engine block to be warm, which is the job of glow plugs during startup. Also if it's too hot it can actually combust to early and try to force the crankshaft to turn the opposite way. I haven't heard of this in automotive engines but I assume it's possible if it can happen in marine diesels. However I don't think this is likely because you're losing power at startup which would make me lean towards your glow plugs being old. I don't know much specifically about BMW diesels though so maybe they use some other method of warming the engine block. If that isn't the case then just post again unless you're already set on a new engine.
what about the fuel...how old is the fuel in the tank? if its old that could be the cause. Or just some pretty crappy diesel fuel could also be the cause.

i have changed the glow plugs not to long ago i changed the fuel filter today aswell still not running right its really anoying me now if the exhaust was broke could it cause this problem???
