If it's not a tiptronic type, most likely, it just sets the transmission for later upshifts and quicker downshifts.

If you read your owner's manual, it'll tell you that the 'M' is for single gear driving. i.e. bad weather

I dont think it'll give more power, it become more heavy to move. I think that's for glide roads.

what maxi? once u put the gearbox swithch to M means (manual), so you have to move the gear to shift one and so on , and you have to shift the gear manually 1,2,3,d, if you put the gearbox switch into M and the knob on D thats means the gearbox is in 4th shift , so if you try to move ur car it will be havey and too slow ,
do u have A/M or E/S/snow ?
i think it just sets the transmission for later upshifts and quicker downshifts as Witeshark said
