Are 318 and 325 auto transmission compatible

Is a 1995 E36 automatic transmission from a 318 compatible with same year 325 (convertible)?

Searched for any thread on topic, sorry if question is too simple.

The part numbers on real oem are not the same, that said you should be able to switch the transmissions between the two and have them bolt right up. I'm not sure what the differences are or the specs on those autoboxes, are they both 5spds?

Groucho for the win!

for the E30 they are the same but 318 gearbox not compatible for 325 coz they are diff on ratio, but for E36 iam not quit sure of that. any way you can fit 318 gearbox on ur 325 but for example at speed 100km RPM will be more than Usual maybe 3000-3800 RPM? thats not good for the engine
