Well, My Head Unit is in Pieces. Now What?
So the illumination in my head unit went kaput the other day, so I thought I'd pull it out and try to figure out how to replace the bulbs. Uh, it is confusing (see pics). Anyone ever done this before? Also, what is the gray thing protruding from the back of the unit (see pic)? It screws off to reveal a bolt. A mystery?
the grey thing is an anchor, thats all. if u look in the opening where the radio was you'll see a black tab toward the back with a hole in it. the grey thing goes in there to hold her steady. i now own two stock e36 head units that work perfect except the display quit lighting up. ive had them all apart before and theres a couple things you can do. let me see if i can find the DIY link for fixing that. me personally, i just said f*ck it and got a nice alpine unit with integrated ipod cus thats what i listen to 90% of the time

I plan on getting a new head unit in the next six months (new baby and buying house right now), but fumbling in the dark isn't my idea of fun. If it was an easy fix maybe I would do it. If not, I'll keep fumbling until I have enough duckets for an Alpine.
