Post-Window Track Repair Issue - Please help

I just finished fixing the driver-side rear window track in my 1998 328i. Everything went smoothly, but when I went to lock my door, nothing happened. The driver-side door lock did nothing when I turned it, and in fact, I was lucky my window was half down because it was locked and I couldn't open it. This freaked me out, so I got in and turned the ignition on and the window lock button in the center console did nothing as well. So, just to try it, I started the car and the window lock worked. At this point, I turned the car off, got out, and tried the door lock again. This time it would lock and unlock all the doors but the lock pull (or whatever you call it) did not go up and down as it had previously done. So in sum, the doors seem to be locking and unlocking as they did before, but the lock mechanism does not go up and down. Any ideas?

On a related note, is it normal that the only way I have ever been able to lock my car is through the door lock with my key after I get out? Plus, when I use the passenger side door, it unlocks all the doors except the driver side. Then, when I walk around I have to unlock the driver side again. Normal? Or are these all symptoms of something wrong with my driver side locking mechanism?

I have only had this car for the last 20k of its 125k so excuse my ignorance. This site has been so helpful in getting me to this point.

Mechanically the door works fine. When I was putting everything back together I was careful to check the travel on everything and the inside door handle and the lock "knob" all worked fine. It seems electrical to me. The driver door lock mechanism makes no sound whatsoever. No strain. The lock turns and unlocks all the other doors but no sound at all from the driver door.
