E36 "Side Skirt fix" problem

Alright, so I recently did the side skirt fix to my car where you use Superclean and a scrub brush to remove the gray coating over the paint. I got all of the gray off, but now I am just noticing various tiny gray scratches in the finish, most likely down to the bare metal. Just asking for any help/suggestions on how to repaint these scratches in a somewhat time efficient manner.

E36 rocker panels are stock color covered by the black road guard substance. It was placed there to help prevent rusting and wear on the rockers. I have heard of several people removing the protective road guard with no problems. I painted over mine. Unfortunately at this point it looks as if you have gone too far down on the paint to save it. Tape off your doors and hit it with a few light coats of rattle can Alpine and it should bond to the paint that is still left and fill in the area that are rough looking. You could also take it to a shop and have it fixed professionally but that equals a substantial amount of money.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the response, I'm not sure if I should prime it first and then paint it or just paint (?)

In this case, I would say that primer is not necessary because you have paint and primer down already. You are just trying to fill in a few areas. Take a scotch brite pad and rough up the whole rocker before you paint though.

Honestly, it looks like you haven't even taken any of it off. Try to get ALL of it off with some Super Clean.

Ok, thanks for the input. Also, I'm almost positive all of the gray is off, I know it sort of looks like its still there but the bare metal looks almost the same color as the gray paint specs you would see if it wasn't all taken off.

Astarps, you are confusing people by calling them side skirts. Side skirts are the plastic one pieces with no gap at the front door hinges (see Johhnybayonnes sig for sideskirts. You are talking about the metal rocker panels that are permanently affixed to the car. Johnny if you took off your side skirts, they are attached to the metal rocker panels underneath..

Astarps, just buy some alpine and paint them already.
