Brembos

One of my friends recently totalled his car and is parting it out. I can get a really good deal on his slightly used brembos... but my brakes work fine so I'm unsure.

I don't understand how people can spend thosands of dollars on brakes. Is it worth it? Do they really make that big of a difference?

Not really -- it's all about pads :spin

is it a bbk? if it is it will make a big difference. but if it is just rotors it will not do much other than look good.

u can;'t just throw brembo's from a random car, and put it on yours.. its gotta fit the e36...

harry, go to a race track and try to use stock bmw brakes. They are pretty damn bad on older models, especially E36's. Even E36 M brakes like mine are really bad when you really start using them around the track. They heat up and fade like crazzzy. Yeah they can get you from 60 to 0 in 116 feet(my car) but they dont even come close to that after a loop on a track. Brakes are one of the best mods if your a frequent tracker/autox'r/ or racer of any type. My friend was actually going to spend his money on brembo's(2 grand) for his M coupe instead of an M50 manifold headers and mid pipes bec of how much he tracks and how much he says he needs them. I'd highly recommend buying those brembo's, not only do they hold up far better on the track but they look amazing and bmw racers will know that you really know how to drive well on a track bec thats a must have mod. I'd get some stop tech's if i had the money, but I wanna get my 1/4 mile time down to a 13.4 first.

edit : Also I'd get it just because its a good deal, they look amazing and even if you dont track...you have something to show off that most people dont have.

yeah but who is going to use all their pads on a track? i mean you spend thousands on brakes and how long do they last for?

95M3 is correct, upgraded brakes help ALOT on the track, from what ive heard, the stock brakes do fade alot, some of this is contributed by shitty pads and expanding brake lines, but the stock brakes do not even compare to aftermarket options.

Pads are very important too for the track, you want something thats going to last long, be fade resistent, and not eat your rotors away. You also want them to have good pedal feel, and be easy to modulate.

Basically ask yourself a question here; why am i modding my car? For looks? Just for the hell of it? Track?

If your not interested in tracking your car, and getting into DE's and such, you probably dont need the brakes.. althought, i have to admit they do look sexy as hell.

Hum, I decided against them because I found out they are not bbk's. I haven't autox'd my car yet, so I have a hard time justiying buying new brakes when i don't really NEED them right now.

Maybe in the future. :p

I would snag those up dude. And while you are in the brake department, get some Stainless Steel Brake Lines. You will definately be able to notice a difference.

as soon as i get my new car the first thing im doing besides coilovers is new rotors pads and stainless lines.. brake fade sucks ass... get some nice zimmerman cross drilled hawk pads and stainless pads and you will be golden! brakes=great investment
