318 tickover / start problems
hi people,
i have recently acquired a '91 e36 318i. its pretty tidy but i bought it runs very lumpy and sometimes has start problems that extend as far as not starting.
basically when i turn it on then the engine 'hunts' alot. the revs bounce between 400/450ish to 1000rpm. if i take it for a drive it settles it alot better but it still hunts more than i would expect it to.
also sometimes it wont start at all, ive got spark etc and it cranks over but it just doesnt fire up. if i take all the connectors off the fuel pumps and then put them back on then it starts. it still runs lumpy after this.
ive replaced the small vacuum hoses and have a new formed on the way from gsf that connects the inlet air hose to the, well what i think is the iscv...( the round item with two vacuum outlets next to the dipstick.)
any ideas??????
anyone seen similar problems before?? im just off out to get the vacuum hose and some service items, plugs, leads, fuel filter, air filter etc.

cheers!
going to order up a new fuel pump tmrw and get that swapped over. see what the outcome is. i'l also clean up the iscv and throttle body.
is there any way to clean up the ams??
am i correct in thinking the pump under the passenger side of the rear bench is the priming/ lift pump and the one under the drivers side of the rear bench is the actual fuel pump.
is the fuel level sender built into the main fuel pump or is it seperate on these?
