Diff question
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I have a question. I just got a 5 speed 1993 325is with 109000 miles and I am looking into parts. I saw a differential from a 1995 M3 automatic for sale and I am wondering if this diff would work in my car? The guy selling it does not know the ratio and he wants $300. What is the ratio for that year M3 and should I get it?
automatic ratios are DRASTICALLY different from the manual ones(as far as i know) so for my understanding your gearing will be way too short(like cant go 70 w/out redline short)

diff
jump on it. it's very possible that it's a 3.38 which is is perfect for your car. If it is they are hard to come by and usally run $800.00 or better used around here. If you don't want it and its a 3.38 let me know.
just to give an example for the rpm difference in ratios... my car came with a 2.93 oped differential stock. this summer i had a 3.15 with an lsd put in. i used 80 mph as a benchmark. stock i was sittin at 3000 almost exactly at 80. now its more like 3400. doesnt sound like a big diff but it def keeps me from cruisin at 90 or 100 for extended periods like i used to. i just dont like to keep the rpms up that high for that long. other than that its one of the best things u can do to your car. every gear is quicker and with the lsd sliding is more predictable and theres more traction there when u want it

Well I'm not going to get this diff, the guy selling it can't answer basic questions about the car (95 M3 Auto) but claims to be the original owner, he being evasive. I have a feeling that the car is stolen. I am still going to search for a diff and other go fast parts. I will post pics of my car once I get a better camera, the one I have now takes crap pictures.
