Car won't start No electric to the fuel Pump

So, my car died. Ive replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, Mass airflow boot (was bad to begin with), and DME (used). I read somewhere that if i wasn't receiving 12v to pin 85 on the DME relay switch that i had a bad DME. Questoin is, did i get another bad DME? Or, do i need to reprogram the DME to work with the car. All this time i fugured i would just swap the DME and be done with it. I hadn't replaced the DME relay or the fuel pump relay because I found that I wasnt getting the proper voltage to the DME relay Pin 85. Im getting .30v - .36v when the key is in position #2 and when I have someone turn the key to start it. I may just replace them anyway.

Testing I have done.
-12V to the fuel pump, it works i hear it buz.
-Sprayed starter fluid in the intake, the car runs as long as there is fluid.
-Car turns over just fine, not getting any gas to the car.
-Tried a Pedal Stop i got "3214" I didn't find the code anywhere.
-Disconnected the battery completely, touched - and + to drain any electricity. (no luck)

Something I need to try is swapping the chip from the old DME to the new(used) one. I also want to check if there might be a wiring problem between the DME relay and the DME. I would need some insight on how to do this if its even possible.

Any insight on this would be helpful.

Thank you

Wow, this one is WAY over my head. Anyone got any suggestions?

well I know with my car that I was not getting 12v to the fuel pump relay, so I had to add a wire directly from the battery to the relay. I read that you hear the pump(s), so they should be moving fuel to the front. Injectors working?? HTH...

I haven't checked the injectors yet because there was no fuel delivery. I can test the injectors next. Thanks,

Have you checked the fuse box, just my 2 cents on the issue.:videogame

This info is incorrect. Relay pin 85 is a ground, controlled by the DME. It's pin 86 that should be hot, and it should be hot (+12v) at all times. In other words, the DME triggers the relay by grounding pin 85, thereby completing the circuit. Still, if you suspect there is a break in the connection at pin 85, you can run a continuity test- it enters the DME via pin #27 on the DME harness. Hope this helps.

Great, thanks for the info. I'll have a look at it today. And to reply to the post earlier above, yes I did check the fuse. Thats what I originally thought it was. Thanks.

Dudesky,

Do you know if when i get a new DME, will i need to have the dealership reprogram it? I had asked the dealership service technician, but he wasn't very clear. He said "yes" Then he said well it depends on the VIN. So, I don't want to haul it to the dealership if i don't have to. Don't need them to give me the runaround just yet.

DME program? no the ship inside is EEPROM (electrically erasable prog. rom ), so it cannot be programed only from factory thas why we replace the ship once we wont to enhance and increase the power for cars (bmw's)

Sounds good. Is there a for sure way to verify that the DME is bad? I'm looking at a few options here.

- purchasing a new DME or chip
- Taking it to the dealership
- ordering a code reader

Looks like i'll be purchasing a new chip for starters.

I'll get back and let you know if this resolves the problem.

Thanks
