Yes I can. If I want third, I just pull the lever down in third and I'm there. Same with second or first. I have just as much control and fun as you do, whether you believe it or not. If you like 5 speeds, so be it, but don't think for one minute I don't have as much fun as you. So we can agree to disagree if you want. It will be useless to argue anyway. your mind and my mind are made up. Why don't we just enjoy our cars the way they are.

^ i do the same, it doesnt shift when it feels like, i know when its going to shift depending on how hard i am on the throttle when i leave it in A. Its hard to get around the stereo type of a slushboxxer, but i know i have solid control.

All I know is I would never let myself buy an automatic bmw. There's just something about those 3 pedals.

You dont have direct control of your engine with an automatic transmission, a computer does, do not for one minute tell me you can actually downshift through a corner WELL. TC's are not the same as clutches.

If automatic transmissions where as fantastic as you make them out to be, then everone who tracks there cars would love them, and hate manuals because they are inconsistent because of human error. Auto's suck, you are in denial, lol. BTW, the automatic tranny in your car is made by GM, just thought you should know.

Next your going to be telling me that autos are just as fast as manuals.

*This is not meant as a flame, please dont take it as an insult, i am just stating that you ARE wrong.*

its okay i have driven auto bmws a lot for about a year actaully... they can think they have just as much control, but as it is proven that a computer cant shift like a human whatever... i dont want to fight about it... i could really careless as you sit there at idle when launching and i can have my rpms wherever i want... going into a corner you can slush your way to 3rd or i can go from 4th to second high rpms for the corner take it to SEVEN Grand, shift the 3rd take it SEVEN GRAND the key there is SEVEN Grand

and like c4talist said you could find a 3.0 for pretty cheap... granted if i were to buy an m3 (like i might be soon, im spending 18+ as i dont want 130,000+ miles on an m3, because you know it was some ahrd ass 130,000 haha

Meh, dude its just not a great idea to think you HAVE to spend that much to get a good car, your just setting yourself up to get ripped off.. yeah 18 grand is what you gotta spend to get a 99 3.2 with 40k on it and not a single scratch.

well of course you dont HAVE too, but the chances of me finding an m3 i want to buy for 10grand around here is slim to none... a 99 with 40k on it blue books at 23xxx privately... i am also not looking for a 99 way to expensive still... my dad got his 97 with 90,000 on it for 15 or so... that is probably what i am looking at... i will probably end up spending 14-15 on an m3 if i go that route... but would not be against spending 18 for one minute to get one with 60 or so thousand miles on it... i mean im not against people getting a 10g m3 at all... they are going for that much now due to mileage the e46 etc.. but what sucks is everyone will be able to afford and get one soon... so everyone that was vtec for life will soon be m powered, we will see some crazy shit on them, some beat up ones, etc that is another reason i would rather spend the money to get a well mainted lowere milage perfect condition m

There is no reason to fight about it. It's all about preference. But, I don't have to launch at idle. I can rev the engine up, not as far as yours, by braking, and launch at a higher rpm. And I can do 7000 in any of the three gears, done it many times. That's, of course, because of the TMS chip. As to the buying of the M3, knowing how it was maintained is even more crucial than buying a 325 or 328. Buying a beater M3 will cause you nothing but heartache and a money pit down the road. Spending a little more money on a M3 is a good investment.

Yeah. I feel strongly about that! Row your own! (manuals only, I think)

And I feel strongly about an automatic. And all that is is preference. Absolutely nothing wrong about it. But I see the quotes often about no control and no fun and that is just crap. I have control, I have all the fun I can stand. Both are subjective. You may think bungee jumping is fun. I think you're out of your mind. I enjoy fishing. You think it's boring. The bottom line, we're both having fun. I do not race, I don't do track days, or autox. I do enjoy running through the gears every now and then. Occasionally, I run a few curves in the mountains. I do drive faster than I should. For that the auto is just fine. If you do more, you need more, for that the manual is king. Can't we all just get along.

well i do want a manual. my 528 is a auto and i want a change. im only 16, so a m3 is kinda out of the question on insurance purposes. im looking at the 325's and 328s right now. whatever is the best bang for the buck. =)

The 328's are faster than 325's, but they're generally about 3-4 grand more expensive. I think sedans are lower in insurance costs, and i would strongly advise on not getting a red car.. you will get pulled over even if you do drive slow.

How the hell can you afford this shit at 16.. (im 16 too) it took me all summer to save up for my car.. heh.

I have driven automatic cars, I find myself manually shifting them. My friend's dad actually asked me to stop, and slow using only the brakes

I use steptronic mostly when I'm driving around, but it's kinda nice to be able to throw it into auto mode in the evenings, grab my girlfriend's hand, and just cruise around holding the wheel with my left hand. If they made a steptronic car with a clutch for manual mode, that'd be perfect.
