E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
K guys, this is a weird problem. It just started up when it got cold outside. You know, cold + electronics = stupid crap.
Anyway, my passenger door is being ridiculous. The "window convenience" feature, or the feature that rolls the window DOWN when you open the door and UP when you close the door, is all messed up. Well, now it rolls DOWN when I close the door and UP when I open the door. So basically, the door closes, but the window is rolled down about a half inch. Gay. It's really a hassle to open and close my door. I have to mess around with the latch, tricking the door into thinking it's being opened and closed until the window convenience feature finally rights itself. I've gotten so pissed off at this annoying problem that I may or may not have pulled the door panel off from the inside. Oops.
Anyway, the question I'm really asking is if there is a way to disconnect the window convenience feature and how (specifically) can I do it? I'm really tired of not being able to use my passenger door because my patience can't take it.

Coupe owners may want to use this opportunity to disable the annoying "window convenience" feature. This feature moves the door window slightly when you open/close the door. Operation of this feature is rather crude and was improved in late 1994 cars. It's not necessary for window fit or sealing and can be safely disabled. See step 17 below.

I've read that before, but it requires me taking the whole latch/door panel apart. It's cold out and I'm lazy. Do you guys think a stun gun aimed at the latch would work? Eh?

Cold it is, & that sucks!!! you can't do much in this weather!!! COLD SUCKS!!!!! After the Holidays put the Bimmer in the garage, & then set up some electric heaters, & then kick some ASS!!!!!!!!!!

As an update to this: I went down to Rolla, where I go to college, over the holiday. My door latch completely stopped working at a friend's house and I had to have the passenger hold the door shut as we drove back to my house. Gay.
I checked it out in the morning. The door latch doesn't even latch at all anymore. So, I've been trying to get one from Bavarian Auto Recycling. They haven't been answering their phones for the past 3 days. WTF? They have the part for $65, which is sooo much cheaper than the dealer or BavAuto or Pelican. I'll have to get the whole passenger door latch with the microswitch and just do a swap. Should be pretty easy, I've already ripped off my door panel in rage, so I have easy access to it.
