325i not turning over
Having trouble starting car. Lights and dash coming on, held gas down to floor for 30sec, car chugged and died. Let it rest over night. Now everything still lights up but it looses power and the dash lights go out. Try it again and before I turn the key the dash lights up but then lights go out when I turn the key. Still won't turn over. It's also started clicking. Jumped it and it didn't help. Battery is 5 yrs old. Could this be the starter or alternater or should i try a new battery? Any ideas? Anything I can clean or jiggle? Any fuses that could effect it?
Thank You

You just found out your problem,
Start with the battery. Once you get it started again you need to check the
output of the alternator with a volt meter. If its not putting out 13.6 or around that the alternator needs replacement also.
Or if you want a cheaper route and your mechanicaly inclined more then likely the brushes are just worn and can be replaced.

yea i just had that same problem with my 325i, it had enough juice to turn the lights on and enough to crank it a couple times then it would start making that clicking noise. so i charged the batt. a bit then it started. i went out and bought a new battery and havent had the problem since
All are good places to look and check and I +1 all of them. I'm just gonna add the Crank Position Sensor. If that went bad, then it's not telling the ecu to spark the plugs. Once you've gone thru all the checks and get juice, check to see if you are getting spark at the plugs. If not, replace the CPS.

Thanks for the advise I think I may replace the battery first...the less expensive fix then move on to the others. The chugging sound makes me think it could be fuel?
back in a few days....thank you
its your battery now-adays around five years the newer batterys just die you can check out your alternator and all that but first try a battery replacement and see from there if you should look into anything else.....moriantrajan...millbrook alabama...1987 328e/ 2000 z3 3.0/2002 325 cic......

I haven't done anything yet but tried jumping it twice. It won't start it. Can a battery just die and not be able to be jumped? I am bring it to a mechanic who also wants to check the timing belt?
