opinion question. I have an e36, and am debating whether to sell it and buy a 740i
 

hello everyone. I currently drive a 1994 e36 325i sedan. i'm debating whether to sell it and buy an e38 740i or not. opinions please:dunno????

Pics? Condition of said cars? What year is the 7 series?

the car's a 1999, and has 130k miles. i dont have any pics sorry..... :( its black on black with the sport rims tho (no sport package tho). i wonder how they compare to the e36 in terms of reliability and small problems.

Five years makes a difference. Would it be a straight swap? There are many factors to consider. Do a Pro/Con write up being as objective as you can be. If money and gas and everything else were'nt a factor, I love seeing the 7 series on the street. Then again, they might not be as sporty as the 325. Depends how you like to drive I guess.

a 1990 is an e32, and those are kinda gettin old now(and they dont look as nice as the e38s) so they arent worth too much, especially when you drive it for a bit and try for resale

e38's are very expensive to fix, from the $3k for both cats when they go, to the $700 water cooled alternator, to the $1300 job to reseal your intake when the PCV goes. Dont forget the $1200 job to replace your rear upper arms and ball joints. And when electrical components go, good luck taking it to a gas station and gettimg them to figure out why ac control pannel has no display but the blower is blowing, and wont turn off.

My opisnon and many others would say stay away from the 7's. There huge money pits and a large majority of them are beat into the ground, expecially 2000's and below. 2001's are usually nice, since they all have the good options and its last year of production.

I would suggest sticking with the e36 for 2 reasons:
1. it is probably a sportier ride and more fun.
2. The e36 is going to be less expensive to maintain.

I'd go for the e38, but maybe a 730 will do the job
it's a great luxury (and still sporty) car

I got a ride in an 03 7 series I believe it was, had really good handling for a car of its size, might have handled better than my 325 lol. If you can afford to repair it a 7 series might be nice, but it also depends on your style of driving. Is your 325 a manual?
