i think thats illegal. im pretty sure you have to have the milage guage set to the amount of miles the body has, not the engine. but i guess you would have to take the guage cluster off and try to reset it. not sure you if you can get it set to 70K tho

its not illegal, actually if you do it at the dealer i think they can do it for you. its called odometer roll-back, however it will register on carfax and with the dmv and usually no one will bother w/buying your car if you try to sell it

get a new odometer. and fill out the DMV paperwork that you got a new one. This way its not suspicious. If anyone asks yours broke.

I think on OBD 2 BMW's if you have the ECU from the motor put in, the cluster will read that mileage. But seeing that yours is a 93 that is OBD 1 I am not too sure.

With obd2 if you use the ecu and a new coding plug on the back of the cluster you can change it, but the manipulation dot will come on. On obd1, I dont belive they have coding plugs, so possibly a ecu swap and recode of the cluster would do it.

I don't think its illegal. It is illegal to have a car and bring the milage down on the engine not the body.
