318i and 318si
What are the differences? My buddy just bought a si and I an i. His seems to shift faster. Does he have the infamous short shifter? What is that? What are the other differences??

Its a 318iS not si. The S stands for sport (i.e. a sport package), it probably has a stiffer and slightly lower suspension and possibly different wheels. I think BMW stopped with a LSD on the sport models by the e36, someone correct me if i'm wrong. I dont know if they put a short shifter in any but someone else may have. Other then a sportier ride they are more or less the same.

Right. I feel pretty stupid for calling it an si. When I first got interested in BMW models I always screwed that up. It was late and I was not thinking clearly.
Anyhow, by stiffer suspension, what do you mean? The car has 200,000 miles and we haven't a clue as to condition. His brother originally offered to sell it for 1,000 dollars. He changed his mind when I became interested in the car. He ended up selling it to my friend for 2500. I guess I'll have to get under the car and take a look.
