What's the difference? (Noob Question)

sup all,

I've been looking for another beemer to add to the collection, an e36 328 to be precise.

But I really wanna know, what's the difference between a 328 and a 325? I've heard it's the same engine. If this is true, how is it restricted on the 325? Could it have potential of having the same performance as the 328?

I only say this because there's not many 328's for sale where I am, but a hell of a lot of 325's.

Thanks

they are the same engine family, but the 328 is 2.8 liters. so it would need to be bored and stroked to technically be the same as a 328, but there are other ways to coax power outta that M52.

2.8 litres vs 2.5 litres That's pretty much it.

I thought the 328 has a more restricted intake manifold tho :dunno

thought thats why the M50 manifold increases power on it

yeah the 328's have a different exhaust setup, intake manifold, emmissions. Not sure if all of them had painted sideskirts and bumpers from the factory. Depending on the year they also had side airbags, and the HK sound system. Better manual trans (ZF), the 2.8 motor makes more tq, than an M50. I could go on with a few other things..

I heard that chiping 328i giving more power than 325i.

well yeah it has more displacement and makes more tq to begin with, so yeah if you chip both, the 328 will be faster.

wicked, a few things i didnt know thanks everyone.
