Replacement battery
Has anyone used a battery other than the one specifically called for? My son's 94 325is is need of a replacement and the few auto stores that carry the "proper" size unit want $125 or more. I haven't gone in yet to measure the battery and see if others fit, but it's hard to believe that another model for a "normal" car at a more reasonable price wouldn't fit. Just trying to save the kid a few bucks!

I replaced the original battery on my '95 325i this past winter with an Interstate that cost me about what you were quoted, maybe even more. Yeah, maybe more than what one would expect, but it was the exact fit for the car, Interstate has a good reputation, and I figured if I get twelve years out of this one as well, that's about $10 a year.
In my opinion, you can buy just about any battery (Correct physical size doesn't really matter that much, you'll just have to mess with it more. CCA and CA are really the only specs you need to be worried about.) with a warranty on it and it'll work fine. (As long as you aren't running a giant amp/subs combo.) I went to O'Reilly's and I think I got one about two years ago for $75. I haven't had any problems since.
