Cracked Head..Need some help..

k i have a couple problems with my car. ('94 325is) I was just pulling onto the highway when i heard a large crack and white smoke started coming out of my exhaust. When i looked under the hood i noticed the smoke was coming from the rear of the engine where the spark plugs are. Oil was also dripping from there so i think it may be a cracked head?? I just replaced a plug from there and the threads were pretty stripped. so im not really sure whats wrong and if someone can give me a hand it would be great! Thx

Not good news at all, a mate of mine had a cracked head in his '97 328i...call to BMW said a new head was €3,000 (about CA$4,500?). Managed to source a reconditioned one from the UK for about €1,000 eventually. Not sure what the labour amounted to. Alot I imagine.

This sounds more like a blown head gasket. As long as you shut it down immediatley there might not be any damage physically done to the head.

Lol I love it when I do that.

What was stripped on the spark plug? The threads on the head?

My first thought would be to go to the spark plug that was stripped. Do you mean that the threads in the head were stripped or that the spark plug nut was stripped? That option would probably be your cheapest way out of this. My next thought, if that didn't work, would be the gasket. Which you could possibly do by yourself. Cracked head, well, that would suck, but I would go there after I singled everything else out.
