I think the fuel consumption for the M42 and the M44 are pretty much the same (I've had both)...if it's the 1895cc M43 you're talking about, I would imagine as a more modern engine, it'll probably return a better mpg. Can't imagine by much though...way lower bhp too...I think it's only about 115 -120bhp as opposed to the M42/M44's 140bhp.

i believe the only difference between the M42 and M43 is that the M43 has a knock sensor, a different intake, and the M44 is the same as the M43 but .2 liters larger?

i think?
M42 is e30
M43 is e36(from 94 on)
M44 is E36 till 9 or something?

i think they are all basically the same as far as gas mileage go.

I didn't realize there was an m43, the m42 was 1st in the 91 318s and the early e36.

The M42 and M44 were only used in the 318is...The M43 was available in a 1.6, 1.8 and 1.9 I thought? The 1.8 was used in the 318i E36s and the 1.9 was used in the E46 318i and 318ci.

That's as I understand anyway.

I think you mean that it's different...bigger engine, couple more cylinders.

Well, the sound of engine (m44) was different from m50, and this is the most what i disliked in that, i am used to listen to my m50, and i realised that i dont wonna change that! its no matter for me,more cilinders or bigger the engine...coz usually im not driving very fast, thats why i was thinking that m44 would be perfect, but...

m50-4ever!

there is a H-U-G-E difference in sound between 4-cylinders and 6-cylinders. A four-cylinder can never sound as good as a six.

+1 to denyo. My M42 sounds like a turd. I'm glad you didn't change!

A supersprint helps your m42 sounds better.
