Clutch

Soon I will have to buy a new clutch kit since my current clutch is beginning to slip. Do you guys have any suggestions? I am not looking for anything too crazy or expensive, I was thinking of an oem grade. My mechanic also suggests that I get a new flywheel and tranny mounts since he will already be down there. What would the prices look like and what else might I consider doing since he is down there?

You can get the Sachs clutch kit from Autohaus for $217, that includes the disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. That's pretty much all I did on my '92 325i, and should be all you'll need. You really don't need to replace the flywheel- save the money 'coz they're pretty expensive. That also goes for the rest of the parts in there; they really don't wear out that badly.

You know when you sort of rest your foot on the clutch and there is almost like a pulse on it? Well my uncle/mechanic says its because of the flywheel. Again, my state of mind is might as well since we're down there. So I will most likely get that kit for $217 but what else should I change since I'm there? If I do decide to get a new flywheel would it have to be a dual mass one?

What do you guys think of the bavauto kit? It costs about $100 more and comes with all the seals and stuff.

Can you even resurface a dual mass flywheel?

You mean if you rest your foot on the clutch without pushing it down? I seriously doubt it's the flywheel since the clutch would still be engaged. I'm almost certain that would be the throwout bearing. If you wanna be on the safe side, you can buy the bavauto kit, but more than likely you won't need to replace all those parts. When I did my clutch a few months ago, I found out those parts barely get any wear and tear, not even the pilot bearing. As far as the flywheel, that's $480 you probably don't need to spend. If I were you, I'd wait until the tranny is pulled out to see if you even need to buy a new one. Waiting a couple of days extra to get one in would be well worth it against the money you could save. If you wanna see what's in there, you can take a look at some of the pics in my DIY.

Thanks for the info, I really don't want to spend the extra cash for a flywheel. Most likely I will buy the kit off autohausaz.com and go from there.

its true, that is the fly wheel. it is actually because it is very slightly unbalanced. however, it really is no big deal, when i replaced the clutch, the screws that bolt the clutch onto the flywheel were not replaced in the same order(one screw may have taken another's place, and i guess they are not all EXACTLY the same weight, i guess it changes after 10 yrs or w/e) but thats what happened and there was a vibration at the clutch pedal. but srsly its no big deal, flywheels will probably last 3x as much as your engine does, its just a waste of money
