i cant beleive some people, their check light comes on and they are just like oh well its probably nothing i will just drive with it on... even if it is nothing (by nothing i mean a sensor went out and threw the code) you still find out its the sensor and fix it... you dont want your check engine light on when something really does happen and you wont know about it...
Putting things off makes it more expensive in the end....
As for the low alternator speed.. you can get it bench tested for free and they will tell you.. but unless your lights are dimming while you drive, or while you roll up your windows you are fine.. theres no pointi n taking your alternator in and out if you KNOW its not that. My abs light along with afew others came on both times my alternator went out also.
oh yeah sorry i forgot to tell you guys it was the gas cap, everything is good now and the check engine light is no longer on
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ....reminds me of my clunking sound and I thought it was my RSMs only to look and find my tire jack and hammer loose in the spare tire wheel well!

i hope that's what my clunking sound is but i'm pretty sure it's rsm's
i had this happen to me the other day. if you look in the manual all the check engine light means is that there is a fault in the emission control codes. the manual says it is ok to drive with the check engine light on. nothing bad is happening to the car. in my case it had something to do with the o2 sensor. i just reset the codes and everything seems fine. the check engine light is nothing to worry about.

I got an engine light on my323i converti about a week after buying it! We put a peake research tool on it and it isn't reading any faults and we can't reset the light. I've been told everything from put vaseline on the gas cap, to it may be a transmission problem. Apparently, if there's a tranny problem, it will cause the light to come on, and until you get the transmission diagnosed, you won't know?
