Exclamation Climate control / air blower not working right !!!!!!!!!!!

hey guys

winter has come n i just turned on my climate control air heater. btw i have a e36 96' and its the European version.

It usually took a while before it got warm enough, but when i turned it on this time, it stayed cold for a really long time. But every so often it has a burst of hot air and then goes back to the cold air. This happens even when i have the temp all the way up to 32C. Last year it was fine and used to warm up and stay warm

I'm really not sure what the problem is and haven no idea what to do so any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks

i think ur car uses a heater core. Check your coolant level?
maybe you have a fuse blown. OR...i had this problem in our volvo. Your car has a air mix control, usually is an extra knob that lets the exterior air mix with the heaters air, cooling it. Make sure thats set to no mix...and you should only get hot air without the mix of the outside cold air.

I had this issue in our volvo, not knowing what the knob was i turned it to open and the heater wasnt very hot in the cold.

btw im not sure if E36 has this option or not, but i know my e46 does..so i assume yours does also.

Have you changed the pollen filter?
the air mix control is the single knurled control under the vents at the top of your console it has blue and red dots on it signifying cold and hot. If you are still having problems after trying the above suggestions you might have a clogged heater matrix, when was the last time your cooling system got flushed through?

And the air mixture knob is right below the main vent (the middle one).

However, I doubt that either of these are your problems.

This should definitely be your cabin air filter (aka pollen filter). It's a pain in the ass to change out, but it needs to be done and isn't technically difficult.

Cabin filter is a distinct possibility, can you hear the fan increasing in speed with the selector switch? If yes and no change to flow.....filter. If no, you may have a bad selector switch resistor pack.
