burnt valve issue (1994 325is)??????

I just recently bought a 1994 325is, although the emblem on the back says its a 328is???? Anyway i was told that it had a burnt valve on #6 exhaust. Which was fine considering that i only gave $500 dollars for the car. I am a honda technician, have been for 12 years experience in a dealership, but i know nothing about BMWs. Theres just a few things that i have questions on. So i figured why not join a site with other BMW enthusiast, pick their minds and see what i can find out. Has anyone heard of problems with burnt valves on these so called e36 engines? And also the blower motor sounds like its running at full speed but hardly puts out? If anyone has any input i would surely appreciate it. I work for a big company that owns a BMW dealership just across the street. I will be asking for their advice, but also wanted other opinions. Thanks again

burnt valve generally means the car was money shifted and the valve made contact with the piston.. the 3 to 4 shift often accidentally becomes a 3 to 2 shift because of the proximity of the gears.

^ what he said. and for the blower motor, yes its very common, you have a clogged microfilter, they say you are suppose to replace it annually, actually i just got mine yesterday and plan on replacing it soon

Or you might need to replace the resistor pack.

hey i appreciate the info guys, I talked with the tech over at the bmw store. He said that he has never seen a burnt valve, not to say that its not possible. I understand your thinking on the bent valve, just cant see the previous owner missing a gear. He also told me that the hepa filter was more than likely clogged. never thought of that, honda also uses hepas. All of this is sorta premature i havent even tried diagnosing atyhing myself yet. Just thought i would get peoples opinions on a possible valve issue before pulling the head. im first going to be sure i check good for any possible vaccum leaks, by spraying brake clean around the intake area. Only thing is im assuming that the previous owners tech checked all of that before condemning a valve. Thanks again, ill let you know what i find.

money shifts on these cars happen all the time and once the rpms go past 7k the valves start to float, all it takes is 2 seconds in the red and the motor is toast. Its just because of how close the gears are.

Yeah, what does a bent valve look like? Since you pulled the head, what plans do you have for the block?
