E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
ill try and get a sound clip, but I mean the lifters are going up and down when you rev it, so I dont see what driving would make a difference?
i actually switched to a heavier oil, and I cant really here this one ticking noise that i used to hear from the passenger front engine side of the car....but it still makes that sound when i accelerate
here's the thing. when Im accelerating it makes that sound. BUT! AS soon as I release of the gas.....it stops IMMEDIATLY.
i mean the lifters are still going when u release the gas right? so if my lifters were making noise wouldnt they still be making it. cuz even tho im not accelerating, the rpms are still up there?
Yeah I was looking at it, like ill prolly attempt to do it tomm, but i figured if it was lifters. they would still tap even once I released the gas. cause when I let off the pedal. it goes away, and is only there when im accelerating, and when Im sitting idle and Rev it up. u cant hear it either? hmm?
I dont know if this would matter, but I have 6 spark plugs right......well their all the same except the back one (it's a different size and color) (well from the top at least) and perhaps a diff brand.....it's the one in the very back which is also where that tapping is coming from? could a different spark plug cause it to fire differently perhaps?
