Help
Im very interested in a 3 series car. Im prob. going to spend under 9 grand and was wondering what the fastest 6 cylinder 3 series i could get for this amount of money was. Nothing too old, i was thinking early 90's and up.
soemthing around a 1992-95 would be your best bet for year. as for model 318, or 325 may be the best you can afford for 9g. but look around u may find better. i got my car (98 328i) for $15,000 canadian. a pretty good deal when u look at other ones for sale

The fastest would be an M3. Then the 328. then the 325. Then the 323. The E36 series ran from 1992 to 1998 or 1999 depending on who you talk to. I think all the body styles changed in 1998 except one. that changed in 1999. About mid 90's is your best bet, depending on where you live. The series are computer controlled as far as speed. They are all about the same, unless you rechip of reprogram the computers in the cars.

I got my '97 328is 5-speed with 91k miles for $8800....and that was from an Infinity dealer. I had to pay $900 for tax, title, and license.
A very well driven 328is 5-speed can do 0-60 in less than 6.5 seconds.
If you search hard enough and don't mind a high mileage car you could get a '95 M3 for around $9000. They have 240 hp and can do 0-60 in under 6.0 seconds
Just to let you know, 8 grand could easily grab you a 328, or a 3.0L M3 with a bit higher mileage if you look around. (10g could very easily snag you a 3.0)
I wouldnt spend more than 5-6 grand on a 325, thats just me though. It also depends on the condition and what the car already has on it, but i wouldnt drop more than 6 grand on a stock 325. You could spend more than that though.. if its low low mileage, and cooling system problems have already been dealt with.
An example of how low 325's are getting down these days is how much i got my car for; i bought my car for 4500 with 124k on it. Recent clutch, and all preventative maintenance done. My car has a worn in interior, and a couple dings though.. but she still shines like a champ with a coat of wax.
