Maxim, i have the conforti intake, a lot like the one in the first picture. its pretty cool. like everyone has been saying, adding a scoop pry wont do much and isnt worth the $$$, fabrication, and time.
if you wanna drag race only thats cool, just know that it isnt the best idea to do it on the streets. i think you have/can figure that out sooner or later. AND that type of racing wasnt the driving factor when bmw was producing these cars. if you want more power you are going to have to start dropping a lot more $$$. thats just how it is w/ bmws. thats exaclty the reason i have only ever bought an intake and exahust, which really in the long run probably have yielded 5-10 hp if that.
here's an idea. Gut everything in your car until you see metal :P, take it out at night with only the driver seat in there and you will probably win a lot more by doing that rather than putting a scoop on your car + a CAI. power to weight ratio is where its at.
Ask any racer. Any real racer. It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning. hahah sorry i had to. im not giving u a hard time man, just the low-down
my $.02 i hope that helps.
Thanks man, i really like how reasonable you are being, and what you say makes sense. Thing is though, the whole point of racing the BMW is to show those stupid rice-astronauts (because they drive
rice-rockets (haha)) that getting a honda, taking out the back seat and making it sound like a lawnmower that a fine german car with all it's luxuries will still beat them, even at their own game. I am actually really considering doing it on the racetrack from now on though- my buddy crashed his car a couple days ago. It was a sentra SE-R with v-spec or whatever that thing is called. 6-speed tranny too. THat thing gave my bimmer a run for it's money. He nailed a road divider right at it's beginning, and jumped up into the oncoming lane. He was actually coming back from the track when this happened. Car was totaled. He was fine though.
PS- I am really considering to forget about the dragstrip, and start doing some circuit racing. I will always be involved with the streetracing community though, if not racing......than organizing. It's just a good way to demonstrate my hate for the local police department.
