are you talkin kph?

in higher gears most cars dont accelerate as quickly as they can in lower gears. thus cars have 0-60 times of 5 or 6 seconds, but then 60-100 times of 9 seconds, just as an example.

Looks like its KPH. You will know if it's a limiter because you will feel like your car is cutting off and sputtering(in a sense of the word). When it gets back down, it kicks back in.

Also, a limiter won't let you go past a certain speed limit or rev range.

That is a fact. Even with the whole "I'm in the autobahn land" my previous E30 (German Specs) had a limiter that had it go to 115 (MPH) before it kicked me down. The newer models after the E36's were up to 125 (tested on a '94 325 I am buying in a month) and a friend of mine that owns a E46 M3 was limited to 155 before he got his ECU upgraded.

hmm see I didnt know they do that in germany. I know some good ol' ukrainian friends, one of them told me that the cars are limited electroniclly with a chip. so maybe a couple of dollars say BOOM come off fucker! ah you know in how much shit someone would be if they got it removed say in a e46 m3 and hit like 170 down i 40 and got busted with that chip not in the engine thats some shit dude!!

Mine (the US Specs one) was topping off at 115 until I swapped a chipped German Specs ECU in it. I hated every time I felt that "pull" and sputtering once I got to 115. Now, I gan get to 140 and still have some more for 150. Did yours hit a limit when you got to 125 Numark?

155mph or 25kph is the limit they come from the factory as standard.

You haven't said what engine size you have. If it's 2 litres or less. I'd expect it to be very slow from 180kph onward.

Speed and Power are an inverse square law. You need 4 times the power to do 200kph over the power required to do 100kph.

Not taking into account aerodynamic efficiency.

^^^ i heard the same thing about the inverse square law in the Top Gear video where they took the Bugatti Veyron to top speed.

i believe that 155 limit was set by bmw and mercedes like Nick said as a "gentleman's agreement" because otherwise they all would have been building bugatti veyrons. . .

well mine exactly reachs the 184 KPH (115 MPH) and then i feel that the car is telling me do what ever you do i wont accelerate more than this :S and the RPM just doesnt move and if it does it moves very very very slow . u know the sound of this engine diapears
but suddenly 2day i went to 190 KPH after the sound diappeard i just kept acc. and slowly slowly it just reached 190 KPH.

i dont know but i think its a chip thing come on i cant have the 260 KPH in my gouge and dont even hit 220 KPH :s

Ah, OK. Japanese imports normally have a 180kph speed limiter. And just like the Germans, the japs agreed to 206kW as their power limit (hence the reason a Mitsi Evo and Scooby STi have the same power).

As the japanese BMW have the Aisen transmission, they may also have the lower speed limiter.

You still haven't said what size motor, so it might just be that you don't have the power to beat the wind at that speed.

Buy a 540. They don't slow down until they hit the speed limiter.
