E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
my ac works fine, especially when its like 70 outside, however when it gets to the 90's+ it stops blowing ice cold and just blows out cool air, i suspect i need to fill it up w/R134A, does anyone know off the top of their head the exact pressure i should fill it to?
off topic: has anyone tried UUC's DSSR, and is it worth it? i know rooz asked earlier but i am not certain if he went ahead with the purchase or not

It's actually a range; depending on the condition of the system it'll take more or less. But you should be somewhere between 25-35psi (low side of course).
the car says "charge 1.82 -.05 lbs" i assume it means charged 1.82 psi give or take .05 psi? although it doesnt say PSI it just says pounds, can i assume that?

check to make sure your aux fan is working also - that helps cool the condensor faster. I have a manual overide switch on mine so I don't have to wait for sensor to kick on and on those really hot days it cools down faster.
yea actually i was worried it wasnt working, but then yesterday i noticed it indeed was working, however i dont know if this is a problem or not, it wasnt making nearly as loud of a noise as like other cars would(some cars you can hear the fan from a WAYS), mine was just spinning quitely, is this a problem with the fan motor or is it supposed to be quiet? and thanks for the clarification dudesky, now if it was overcharged, i measure the pressure from the small(low pressure) hose and release it from there too?

so yes, i measured the pressure and it turned out to be a tad bit under 25, and i recall my mechanic telling me that if the fan turns on and off and goes back and forth, it means you are low on R134a. i realized that is exactly what is happening, and then i also noticed that when the fan is on, i rev up the engine and when the RPM comes down, it dips a little too fast, and then goes below idle, then goes back up to idle, however when the fan is cycling between on and off, if it is off at the time, it doesnt do that. i also tried c1apton's method of checking for a vaccum leak via a propane torch and was unable to find anything, can anyone help me there? sorry for the long post
