E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
Silver cylinder sounds like a fuel filter, at least that's what it looks like on the 325/328's. But they're located further back and on the driver's side on those models. Not sure about the 318, better check with realoem.
Here's the diagram from REALOEM and what the fuel vapor return looks like. (the canister does not show a part#) but it's located behind driv side headlight. It's usually a black plastic canister about the size of a small coffee can. I'd be checking these and the small rubber fuel lines all around the engine compartment.
Well, they shouldn't. After almost eight years here, I should be able to say such things. The other day I used it in a real-life conversation and somebody said "Did you hear that? Daniel said 'ya'll.'" [sigh]
Oh, and I found that damn canister. Finally. For future reference, it on the driver's side next to the engine, laying on it's side in the M42 engine bay.
