Question Oil question for 328i Engine

I am just about to change the oil on the bimmer an have worked out that 10w40 (fully synth) is the way forward.
The oil is very expensive £42.50 for 5l my question is how much do you need to do a full change?
Thanks in advance,
Rich

Ok after an hour or so paroozing the tinterweb I found that it needs 6.9 Quarts (what ever that is) translates to roughly 7 UK L.

Yes, indeed. About 7 liters. Keep in mind that although the full synthetic is more expensive, you only have to change it half as often

Just double check the level after changing the oil, my M50 engine, production 2/95, takes 8 qts. to bring the level to the top notch on the dipstick. Why that should be I have no idea, as the owner's manual calls for 6.9.

^^^You shouldn't be at the top notch. Proper level is midway between the marks. That half distance up to the top mark can take as much as a quart because the oil pan widens near the top of the pan.

The only problem is, putting in the 6.9-7.0 qts. only brings me to the bottom notch on the dipstick, this observed from experience.

Then add enough to get it to sit right in between the two notches -- not for it to reach the top one.

yea my 330(m54?) says it takes 7 liters..but after a day i have to add another half quart or so to get it topped off(at middle)
also 42 euro(57$) is about what i pay. around $7.50 a quart for fully synthetic oil.
