3.5" Maf
I want to get a 3.5" mass air flow meter for my E36 325i. What all do I need other than a chip to do this conversion? I've seen some on ebay for $150-200, would I be better off going to a junkyard? Is there a difference between the 4.0L and the 4.4L MAFs?
so do you have high performance cams that are going to suck in more air? just having a bigger maf doesnt mean the engine is getting more air...
just doing one thing probably wont net you much benefits. if you want a 3.5inch maf you should get schrick cams, high flow headers, hi flow exhaust and midpipe, injectors and software, and might as well do a crank pulley or underdrive pullies while you are at it...
i dont even know if there is 3.5 inch maf software available for your car

I have exhaust and software and was planing on buying high performance underdrive pullies and 328/M3 injectors
but your saying I'd need to do alot more to get benifits from the 3.5" MAF? I thought turner motorsports made a chip for it but its for the M3, I guess I could get a custom one but thats really expensive isn't it?

your car will not work unless it has software specifically tuned for the 3.5' maf and the larger injectors. you would be better off investing your money in a supercharger kit.
1st off - how many miles on your car? Do you have a CAI? I'm asking because it sounds like you want to throw parts at it to increase power and I'm curious as to what you have already. Too many folks start bolting stuff on only to find they exagerated another problem - like bolting superchargers & turbos onto older car and that usually leads to damaging engine parts, blowing gaskets, burning up fuel pumps amongst other things. Make sure your engine is prepared for all these "additionals" so you don't accumulate a barrage of headaches and a big hole in your wallet. Experimenting with MAF software isn't cheap and whatever you do, don't use e-bay as a guide for ideas - they'll be happy to sell you stock chips advertised as super HP units.
Remember all of your original parts have worn together from day 1, so any changes you make are going to exert more energy on them.

Yeah thats what I was saying, the chip that is for the M3, (which I thought was for the 325i), is tuned for 24lb injectors, 3.5maf, and some kind of high performance cams.

Its got 175,000 miles, don't worry, I know better than to do forced induction.
