Problems with overheating

:bluecry1 I have a 1997 328is thats overheating! I've changed the fan clutch, thermostat, water pump. It continues to overheat. There is light white smoke coming out of muffler. Could it be the head gasket? help I'm at my wits end!

If it was coolant coming out of the exhaust, you'd smell it. Did you bleed the system correctly? Follow step #10 on this page:

Dudesky,
I have a 525i which is overheating also. I am aware of the coolant system bleed procedure, but I have no idea where the bleeder screw is located on my engine. A friend states that on the 3 Series, the screw is on the thermostadt housing. I don't see anything that looks like a bleed screw on the 6 cylinder motor. Can you help? I hate that its something so simple but eludes me.

It's the cross-looking screw right next to your expansion tank cap, it says "ENTLUFTUNG".

I had a similar issue with a 1994 325i. I replaced the radiator, thermostat, with no resolution. Turned out it was a head gasket issue, and the length of time cracked the block as well. Hopefully your problem isn't that bad, but it's quite possible the gasket is blown, especially if there's a coolant smell in the exhaust.

in the morning open the oil cap for engine if you found white color mixed with oil that means maybe the gaskit or head damaged

Might be the head gasket

If you have white smoke coming out your tail pipes , that is a sign of coolant burning. Blue smoke would be oik burning. Before starting your car, unscrew your oil filler cap and see if there are any signs of white oil and water mixture on or around the cam.

Thermostat or waterpump or you may want to check the heating hoses at the back near to the firewall.
