If you get the M coupe shifter from understeer, I would suggest that you get the kit with the bent shifter and I would dish out the $30 for the bent selector rod. In a 328, you *will* need to bend it. Otherwise, you will not be able to shift into 1st or 2nd while in motion. You will be able to shift into 1st from a standstill; you can also shift into second when not in motion, but the shifter will pop out as soon as you star moving. "Why is this?" you ask -- well, because if these modifications are not made, then the end of the shifter will hit against the driveshaft. Ask me how I know

Finally had some time to install the short shifter along with all the new linkage bushings, all I can say is AWESOME its like a totally different car, shifting is so crisp and clicks right into the next gear with the flick of the wrist, Pelican Parts DIY was spot on and it only took about 1 1/2 hours, I got the shifter they reccomend that decreases about 33% I think it is perfect. do not hesitate if you are thinking about doing this. who would of thought shorter IS better.
Good luck, any questions about the procedure I would be happy to help.
