318 tourer rear wiper

ok, suddenly my rear wiper works when it wants, sometimes it won't work for two or three days then all of a sudden, like today, it starts to work all on its own and when it starts to work its pretty much uncontrollable, starts, stops when it wants to? looks kinda dumb when the sun is high in the sky and the rear wiper is running.
Anybody ever come across this or maybe can point where i should be looking???
