AC cold just quit
Hi all, got my BMW a few weeks ago - did not really do my homework - one of the first models, missed vanos but the car still rocks!
I was driving down the freeway my AC working fine - no problems then suddenly(no noises - the cold air stops coming, the blower still works and the lights all are on (including the AC light just no cold air - no leaks and the system kicks in when activated any ideas?
No, you probably do have a leak, the proper test for which requires use of an ultraviolet dye, I believe, which allows for the site of the leak to be pinpointed. Might also be the compressor, but as you say everything else kicks in, then that's probably okay. I think a recharge may be on the order of $100, which you may have to do every year or so, depending upon the severity of the leak, to retain a/c, if you don't want to go to all the trouble and expense of a permanent fix.
Yes, try a recharge first. That '92 will have the conversion to R134a- because of this, the seals are not as old as the car itself, making it less likely to have a leak.
And what's wrong with pre-vanos? I have the same car :throwrock
