E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
those wheels look damn good i thought. but what ever floats the boat my friend. i do agree that theyre to big. i dont know why people feel the need to put that big of a wheel on a damn sports car. oh well

With the correct tires designed for your car, even on 18"s the speedo really isn't off. And yes I currently own 18"s and they are on my 325i right now.. Some people tend to get the wrong tire setup.

My personal theory on modding is don't do it, unless you do. And by that I mean, either mod it or don't. none of this halfway bullshit. Corners, rims and tint is not the whole way. If you're gonna go the whole way you gotta go rims/tires lower the car, better suspension, corners + HID's + Fogs+ angel eyes + Tint.
Same goes for engine mods (gonna piss off a couple people here but oh well). If you're gonna mod the engine, do it right. Intake, exhaust is not a mod. its a ricey thing to do to just do exhaust intake. the least you should do is exhaust, intake, manifold, pulleys. if you just go exhaust intake, you're no different with your dinan exhaust and intake than the ricers with their pep boys fart can and the pep boys brand neon green intake. you both did the same thing, changed your sound without altering the performance. (exhaust/intake mods are supposed to free up air flow, but if you don't touch the manifold and add high flow cats, you're jsut wasting money. remember, a system is only as good as its weakest link. --- Go big or go home.)

regarding the odom: wouldn't the larger rims make up for the lower profile tires? the whole wheel (rim+tire) could have 16" rims with tall tires and have the same diameter as 18" rims with low profile tires. or am i missing something?

i agree...and i don't. i think there is a limit to what kind of modding looks good. i personally don't think angel eyes would look good on my E30. yet i plan on rims +lower + suspension + corners + tint. just because i don't put on angel eyes doesn't mean it looks bad modded.
as far as the engine - i agree with you more on that. yet its okay to do it a little at a time. intake/exhaust should be done together, but you can add to the rest over time. just my 2 cents.

the only place one should touch a BMW is under the hood, and that is only if it is not an m-series.

Suspension is a MUST, are you kidding me?
you may be happy with the 4x4 look of your bimmer but i sure as hell was not. And please dont be a badge whore/elitist. There are more than 10 "japanese pieces of shit" that id rather have than your e36
i think the "light modding" needs to be worded differently and thought of more as "cleaning up". you all know what i mean. those little things like tint, de-badging, lowering, clear lenses, better wheels if you dont like yours (not big and cheesy), black/color matched kidney grills, etc. these are just the little things that i think anybody who gives a shit about their ride would do to any car (or the equivelent actions). i tinted my car, got rid of all the amber, took the badge off the back (no lowering, i have the sport package and it tucks tire in back as is), and put ///M wheels on because i think it got rid of the rough edges and brought out the beauty. i do not consider that "modding" and i am def a supporter of keepin shit stock, or aftermarket with stock styling. theres a reason the e36 body barely changed for the better part of a decade, its fuckin hot! haha as for the engine i agree to an extent with my man who went on that little rant about intake/exhaust. all i've done is drop in a k&n filter and did the M50 manifold swap. anything else im saving to go big or i dont see it being worth the time and money. As for suspension, AGREED it is a must if you love to drive hard. the e36 is a great starting platform but we all know theres always room for improvement. i upgraded my shocks and put a turner swaybar kit on and i will say any suspension "mod" is worth your time
