Arrow Removing Yellowed Coating On Engine?

Anyone have any idea how to remove the yellowed lacquer looking coating from the engine(see below)?

And is there some kind of new protective coating to replace it once it has been removed?

It's from spilled oil. Burnt spilled oil to be specific. I've been told that WD-40 works... I've tried it with no avail. If you find something, let me know.

^^^ I tried that with steel wool. No luck. Anything else?

Also, engine detailer doesn't work. I tried a bunch of things before Midwest Bimmer Festivus last year...

Just a thought, don't know if it'll work- you could try GoJo orange hand cleaner. It's an excellent degreaser, we use it to clean grease off steel at work.

Ultimately, you could send the cover out to get sandblasted next time you replace the gasket. Doesn't cost too much, maybe $50 tops, if it really bothers you.

That's a factory coating to keep oxidation to a minimum. If you really want it off bad enough use spray aluminum wheel cleaner (for non clear cote wheels) that's an acid you spray on rinse off.
