wtf a trebecca outpulled me

Tonight I was driving, and somehow ended up racing some drunk guys (2 of them) in an 06 Subaru Tribeca. I had 2 passengers in with me, who were also drunk. The race wasnt very much of a race, it was more of a fast drive. Now the guy definetely had more pull than I did. I would say it was relatively close, and i could probably have pushed my 93 325i harder, but the way that trebecca pulled away from me was pretty intense. I stopped accelerating wehn I hit 120 kms in a residential area (as well as a playground zone). He was clearly ahead of me, but kept going. The entire way home I kept telling myself "hes prolly got a turbocharged 3.5 L V-6 in there. I just looked up what was in there, and its a bloody 3.0 L H-6 in there, with 250 @ 6600 RPM and 219 @ 4200 RPM. Theoretically, I had a better torque/pound ratio, and a slightly better HP/pound ratio. I should have been just as fast as he, but didnt work out that way. Now about my car:
1993 325i.
Standard.
K&N
Had 94 octane in the gas tank

Would anyone have a clue as to why his peice of shit was overall faster?

yeah, i wouldnt worry about it. maybe your passengers were heavier, and that ruined your ratios.

did you drop it a gear or two?

You like to race people (i guess you didn't learn from that ticket), and racing drunk people sounds like a really dumb idea. Also when you race dont half ass it don't say, "i could probably have pushed my 93 325i harder" Racing is 100%.

And Racing on the street is 100% Stupid, your going to get another ticket or end up hurting something, please be careful and leave the racing to the track, BMWCCA has some very good drivers schools and they are a lot of fun.

You are in a BMW, he is in a Subaru. You win already with a better car. Who cars of how the outcome was. You have class, he doesn't. End of story.

How does owning a BMW constitue having class? How does either driving a Subaru or not driving a BMW make one class-less? Dumb generalizations. I always saw you as a more complete person than this last post suggests...

Yeah, i guess id better stop streetracing. Its not a very good thing to do, but I have a heavy foot and plenty of stupidity.
Now about the drop-in air filter- I understand that getting a K&N conic is considered to give more power, but I do not see how that works. I mean- the conic will take hot air from under the hood, while the existing intake takes it from outside.

But I am totally in love with the car. It is wonderful. I want to make it look as nice as the ones you guys have, and maybe have the engine rebuilt over the summer if I can squeeze enough monies for that.

two passengers in a 15 year old car is alot of weight. Plus its not putting out as much HP as it did back in the day. You would have taken him in the twisties.
anyways dont hurt yourself or anyone, be carefull. But..i know how u feel

yea, honestly, the only reason i havent ripped on him for streetracing is because i know how it feels, sometimes you just cant resist, the way i tend to refrain is by telling myself i love my car too much and i dont want to abuse it

suvs get up quicker than most people think. haha. my friend was drivin his '03 mazda protege 5 and got trashed by a fuckin chevy tahoe drivin by an old man, and it was loaded with camping gear. talk about embarrassing. hell my other vehicle is a '92 ford ranger with a 4.0 v6 and ive smashed many a sports car. especially off the line. so never underestimate a truck/ suv in a race. they might suprise you.
