preformance upgrades?

so i just bought my 95 325i last week. and after i put a new fuel pump and rear main seal in, i was wanting to put a little more pep in its step. so what do you guys recomend as far as gettin a few more horses out of it on a budget? also im really wanting to tear out the auto trans and swap out a 5 spd. anything special i should take into consideration before doing this? it should just bolt rite in right? minus installing the clutch pedal and what not. i dont know what do you guys think?

Is it an M52 motor? If so, swap the intake manifold for the M50 one.

It flows better.

As far as power goes you should start with the basics, a good intake, chip, and exhaust. As as for a 5-speed, switching out an automatic for a manual is no walk in the park, I mean the getreg 5-speed bell houseing does bolt right up to the engine, but theres alot of other shit that goes along with a MT; slave cylander, master cylander, the clutch, you probly need to get a driveshaft out of a 5-speed also. Although if your planning on doing serious modifications to the engine in the future, I'd suggest looking into a ZF 5-speed from a 328, they can take alot more tourqe. If you don't want to spend the money paying someone to do the manual conversion, or time and effort doing it yourself, an automatic trans chip from dinan can help.

hey man thanks for the advice. i knew id have to hookup all that stuff for a trans swap, ive got a pretty good mechanic background but mainly with domestics so i didnt really know what to expect because ive never really done anything to a german car. but yeah ill definatly look intl that z5. and where can i check out that auto trans chip from dinan?

chris325i 04-28-2007 11:18 PM

yeah when i figured out i had to go threw a dealer to get it i figured it would cost a shit ton. but its probly still cheaper then a swap, so ill probly give it a try.

Can you tell me the series and motor number please thanks:thumbup

chris325i 04-29-2007 12:44 PM

its a 95 325i sedan. i really just became a bmw enthusiast not to long ago so i dont know to much when it comes to motor numbers and what not. i do know its a 2.5 inline 6 cylinder.

94bmw325i 04-30-2007 12:22 AM

It's is the OBD 1 M50 2.5l vanos motor.

Going to manual isn't too bad. But like someone said further up you need quite a few parts. I am so close to doing this with my 325i, but I might be also getting a coupe soon, that I am going to setup for track driving (turns, not 1/4 mile) so it might not be worth it..

chris325i 04-30-2007 09:16 AM

yeah ive done plenty of trans work in the past but like i said most of it was domestic. but nothins happening yet on the count of the amount of spare change i have i.e. $0 so im still lookin at all the options ya know. but if i just happen to stumble upon the cash then ill probly dig in and swap that bitch out. haha
