600 dollars later...
I was in LA last weekend, started driving home.... I got to Westminister and my ABS, check engine, airbag and I believe some other light flashed on... Pulled off the freeway, restarted my car... but wouldn't start... Battery was basically dead.... After driving for hours that day (Laguna Niguel to Fullerton to LAX to Glendale to Pasadena to.... trying to get to LAguna Niguel....) After some time finally get the car to finally start... Get on th efree way.
This is at night.. My lights are basically dead.. not shining any light to the freeway street... scary as shit so I stay in the slow lane. I wanted to see if anything happened if I flash my brights really quick.... BAD idea... Car joulted and felt like it almost died..... After a few more minutes I reach Santa Ana and my car is losing power... I get off freeway and my power steering dies... next my engine... so I roll and make it to the main street... halfway thru the turn onto a smaller street... had to push it 15 feet to the side.
A flat bed and 100 dollars later, my car is in the drive of my mechanic.
New battery and new alternator = (
I have been getting kind of high pitched sound coming when my car is at idle or lower rpm... thinking it might be a pulley or something... kind of sounds like I have a super charger..haa
I would bet money on pulley bearings. That would account for the high pitched noise as you suspected, and since your steering is weird, it could be the steering pump pulley. Pull both belts off and chack if any of the pulleys are turning rough, or have excessive off-axis movement. The condition of the belts could tell you something as well.
right when you said(well, typed, really) that all the lights came on at once, i knew immediately it was your alternator, thats what happens(not just to BMWs) when the charging system goes buzzerk, that could either be your alternator is not working, cable is disconnected, or pullies like dudesky said
